Gentlemen,
First let me say thank you for your service and sacrifice during WWII.  My name is Matt McGarry, and Black Mac was actually my grandfather's cousin, although he always referred to Black Mac as his "uncle."  I am an A-10 pilot in the Air National Guard in Boise, Idaho (190th Fighter Sq).  Before that, I flew A-10s for 10 years on active duty in NC and Alaska.  In NC, I was proud to be in the 23rd Fighter Group, flying A-10s with "teeth" and keeping your heritage alive.  I had one assignment in the 75th Fighter Sq and another assignment in the 23rd Fighter Group.  At the Flying Tiger reunion there in NC in 2000, I talked to Ed Rector about Black Mac and the day he got shot down.  Now I am trying to find pictures of Black Mac's airplane (P-8115?) from before when it crashed into the jungle so I can replicate any nose art/other insignia he had on the A-10 that bears my name in Boise.  The A-10 has a door on the left side that hides a telescoping ladder so you can climb into the cockpit...we put our "nose art" on the inside of that door - so the artwork can't be seen when the jet is flying.  If anyone has any info, I sure would appreciate the help.  Thank you for your time, and God Bless.

Widow of AVG pilot J. R. Rossi
Black Mac was living in Palm Springs for a few years before his death. My husband, Dick Rossi, visited him several times during his last years.
When we were in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 1994, we were shown the wreckage of his P-40 which had been recently pulled out of the jungle and was on display.
Sorry that I don't know about the specific questions you ask regarding his plane and nose art. The general nose art of the AVG is well known as is his squadron, the First Pursuit Adam and Eves.
Good luck in your further search.

Bob Bergin, who was primarily responsible for arranging our visit to Chiang Mai and the wreckage of McGarry's P-40 had this to say about Black Mac's plane:

Back in the early 1990s when Black Mac's airplane was first found up in North Thailand, I did a lot of research on Black Mac and the airplane.  I tried to find photos, and as I recall there virtually none. In time, we did find Black Mac in a couple of shots, and one or two of his airplane. I think there is one photo of his airplane that is pre-teeth.  Probably with just the AVG number painted on the side, but no other markings.

I don't think that any of the AVG airplanes at the time Black Mac went down had any nose art per se, and I don't recall that there was any later. Some of the Second Squadron had personal Panda Bears on the side of their airplane, and I think some of the Hell's angels had individual ladies painted on theirs.

Based on what I remember of the reseach I did, there were probably no distinctive markings on Black Mac's airplane.
