Great link, thanks Lydia.

We also recognize a Friend of the AVG, Ward Boyce, who is on the Board of the American Fighter Aces Assn. and has worked for many years to further the efforts of both organizations....thanks Ward!!

It should also be noted that George B. McMillan, Flt. Leader in the 3rd Sqdn "Hell's Angels", was credited with 4.5 AVG aerial victories.  While serving in the 449FS of the 51FG, McMillan was credited with another 4 kills.  Thus this AVG pilot is officially recognized as an ace, but not solely based on his AVG ace nonetheless!

And don't forget Ed McClure, born 100 years ago today, joined the AVG in 1941 from the US Navy, became a crew chief with the 1st Squadron, and was one of four AVGs who joined the US Navy in China when the AVG was disbanded. Back home in 1943, he earned Wings of Gold at the advanced age of 27. As Lieutenant McClure, he flew a Hellcat in VF-9 under the command of ex-AVG Whitey Lawlor. He became an ace while aboard Yorktown in April and May of 1945.

The invaluable Frank Olynyk was the one who sussed out McClure's combat record. See Zeke Striker's account at
