I'm Keith Lee, one of 4 children of Pak On Lee, engineering helper in Headquarters Group.

July 4, is the 72nd anniversary of the forced disbanding of the AVG.  2015 will be the 70th anniversary of the end of WW II.  There is a national celebration planned for the end of WW II, but it seems little if anything is planned for the recognition of the brief history of the AVG or even the inclusion of the AVG in the upcoming celebration.

In addition to the observance of the end of WW II, I have sent memo to the families of the 12 Chinese of the American Volunteer Group (the CAVG; the explanation of the number of Chinese is explained in the book, 'a Chinese in the AVG, which officially records 8) reminding them of the significance of July 4 and the participation and service of their fathers in WW II for both America and China.  8 of the Chinese served with the CATF and the USA Fourteenth Air Force.

Are there plans underway to bring the AVG into the national celebration next year?  There is still time and the AVG deserves the recognition.

Keith----this is a great suggestion.  Can you forward any info about the organization of this commemoration to us so that we can contact the leaders?

Please email it directly to me:  aaatripp@gmail.com

This is a story which needs to be told.....and retold (lest it fade from neglect).

Thanks,
Tripp

To all members of the AVG FORUM:

We again pause to remember the members of the AVG Flying Tigers on this anniversary of their disbandment 72 years (and 2 days) ago on July 4, 1942.

A grateful nation will always remember their loyal and dedicated service to preserve freedom in the world and to serve as Americans helping the Chinese people.  We must never forget their sacrifices, toils and ordeals as they were the first Americans to fight back against the Japanese following their "dastardly attack" on Pearl Harbor, the Oahu airbases and many other facilities in the Far East.

Warm thanks again to Keith Lee, son of Pak On Lee, AVG, who began this thread to commemorate the disbandment of the AVG on July 4, 1942.

We remember with fondness the many dear friends, family, leaders & staff of the AVG who gave so much to defend the Chinese people and to protect freedom in a faraway part of WWII, the China-Burma-India theater of war.

God bless you....and thanks!
