cousin of Maax C. Hammer, Jr., AVG 22Sep41 RIP
Thanks, Lincoln, for these additional sources on the AVG Flying Tigers.

I believe that Max Samson is actually Jack Samson.  His two books are:

CHENNAULT (1987)

The Flying Tiger: The True Story of General Claire Chennault and the U.S. 14th Air Force in China (2011)

Well I believe my gf was like a combat controller for General Chennault and I have gotten some answers about my father. I know that CAT had brought them here in the early part on January in 1950. I suspect they had a little trouble getting into the USA due to the Chinese exclusion act and that Wedemyer may have helped them. My father's life will always be a mystery as it seems to be highly classified. I'm glad to know some of the truth . I had spent 36 years wondering why he had changed so much as nobody had told me he was in a war. I had assumed he wasn't fighting by then, but I guess there were other things going on. I cannot tell you how badly it hurt me as a child to have my father disappear out of my life like that. I understand now completely and am so thankful for those answers. My dad was the first person I ever knew who adored his child. I do think it's interesting that Chennault had come up with the ground team liaison.

Ben, thanks so much for all the research. Great to have that list!
Would it be OK if I were to put your list up at the website?
Thanks

It should be noted that the ford book was not appreciated by members of the AVG. They considered it an insult to their history, their record, and to General Chennault.

"Off to the Wars; The Incredible WWII Combat Log of Gil Bright" by Mike Minnich is from the May, 1984 issue of Airpower.

"From Africa to China Via P-40" by Lt. Col. John F. Ohlinger  is from the Winter, 1973 issue of Air Combat

I also left out the June ,1967 issue of American History Illustrated, which included the following stories;

"The P-40: Work Horse of the Skies" by Robert J Milch

"How one Flying Tiger Died" by George Jaeger
This is an eyewitness account of the death of Bert Christman, it includes a couple of Christman sketches and clears up the way that he died. This account says that while Christman had wounds to his head and arms, the cause of death resulted from the fall in a partly opened parachute.

From World War II April, 1973 issue is the  article "Flying Tigers"

From Military Chronicles Dec., 2010 is the article "Claire Chennault and Pursuit Aviation, 1919-1941" by Steven Weingarter
